An long weekend with an extra day off means that there is time to go on a little trip! Since I was free of school on Monday, I decided to spend a weekend in Utrecht. I often visit Utrecht, but this was my first time to spend the night there. I mostly explored the city centre of Utrecht and discovered some amazing hotspots in the city!
Hampton by Hilton Utrecht Central Station
For my weekend trip I stayed at the Hampton by Hilton hotel. The hotel is located inside the shopping mall Hoog Catharijne, which is right next to Utrecht Central Station and adjacent to Jaarbeurs convention center.
The Twin Room we booked was fairly compact, but very new, modern and cosy. I really liked the blue colored wall and the decor on it, like the map and vintage photos of Utrecht! The room had two separate beds and a sitting area.
You can enjoy the convenience of having tea & coffee making facilities, a flat panel HDTV and a laptop size safe in the hotel room as well. We were able to refresh in the bathroom with a full shower, fluffy towels and bath amenities. The room had everything we needed!
From our room we had a view over the roofs of the Hoog Catharijne mall and we were even able to look inside the mall through its glass roof! When the mall officially closes you are still able to walk around it and enter the hotel at all times.
Good to know about the hotel is that the attractions in Utrecht’s medieval city center are within walking distance, and Utrecht Central Station is a five-minute walk. Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol Airport are within 45 minutes by train.
The Hampton by Hilton hotel has free WiFi, daily hot breakfast, and a fitness centre. There is also enough space in the lobby and sitting parts of the hotel to sit comfortably and get some work done! We really enjoyed our short stay at the hotel!
MUS Concept Store
In Utrecht I discovered two new hotspots. One of them is MUS Concept Store. Located right along the Oudegracht. In June 2018 the concept store opened in one of the nicest shopping streets in Utrecht, the Lijnmarkt.
The store is bigger than you think, because there even is a basement where you can find a selection of products. The store is very cozy and MUS sells some amazing fashion pieces as well as lifestyle products. The founder draws inspiration from Scandinavian and Dutch brands, which is noticeable in their brand choices and the styles they offer.
I was especially interested in the lifestyle items at MUS. In the basement you will find a wide selection of lifestyle items like home accessories and cookbooks. You can make your house completely with a candlestick, lamp or beautiful mirror all purchasable at MUS. MUS has a fun and varied range in the field of lifestyle items that can also perfectly work as gifts as well.
I even found this cute pink couch in the basement, which made for a perfect place for a photoshoot!
It’s a Present!
The second new hotspot I discovered in Utrecht is It’s a Present! I found this store on Instagram when I was looking for hotspots. It is hugely popular on social media for the swing at the back of the store where you can swing above the Oude Gracht! I came not only for a photo opportunity, but also to have a look at all the fun gift items on sale!
In the center of Utrecht, with a view of the Dom and right along the Oude Gracht, is It’s a Present located. It’s a Present! is a web shop and store in Utrecht where you can buy the most original gifts. There is a choice of many different brands and items. A shop full of inspiration! Beautiful home accessories, gadgets, cards, maternity gifts. In short, in this store you can find a nice gift for everyone or buy something for yourself. I bought myself a postcard I want to frame and put on one of my shelves!
I visited It’s a Present!, because I saw the store all over social media. It’s a Present! is Instagram famous for their iconic swing at the back of the store. What’s special about it, is that on this swing you can swing right above the Oude Gracht.
At the back of the store you have the most amazing view of the famous canal and all the old buildings surrounding it. You can wave at the people eating at the restaurant on the other side of the Oude Gracht and get the cutest pictures for social media!
I’m glad you followed me along on my weekend trip in Utrecht. This article is an itinerary & travel guide of my short stay in Utrecht. I hope you will visit the hotspots I tipped to you and that you had fun reading about my experience of this short trip!
