By now you probably know that for many the big secret to great hair and skin is sleeping on a satin pillowcase. In some kind of magical way, sleeping on a satin pillowcase seems to make a real positive difference. I had to try it out for myself and see what all the hype is about! I was lucky enough that Satin-Pillow, a Dutch brand that sells satin pillowcases (and now also satin masks), had reached out to me for a collaboration. They were kind enough to send me a satin pillowcase and mask in a color of my choice! (of course I went for baby pink!) So, for the last week or so I have been sleeping on a satin pillowcase.
Beauty Sleep With Satin-Pillow
Firstly, let’s start of with a bit of information about the brand I’m collaborating with today. The Ducth brand Satin-Pillow started from a passion for care and cosmetics. Most women – yes, me as well – spend a lot of money on expensive products to keep their face looking as acceptable as can be. And besides spending millions on our face we also like to worry about our hairdo. Satin-Pillow claims that using a satin pillowcase is a smart way to pay attention to your skin and hair while you sleep, without having to do anything. To me that almost sounds too good to be true!
The Satin Face Mask
Satin-Pillow not only sells satin pillowcases, but since COVID-19 they now also sell masks. Let’s start with the mask first and save the most exciting for last. Wearing a mouth mask has been mandatory in public indoor spaces in the Netherlands for a while, so you can never have too many. The Satin Face Mask from Satin-Pillow consists of two layers of high-quality satin and has a calming and cooling effect on your skin, reducing the risk of irritation.
The mask is available in ”one size”, but has adjustable straps and allows oxygen to pass through easily. Furthermore, the mask is anti-allergenic, helps to prevent ”maskne” -that’s what you call acne cause by masks, right? – and is very light and comfortable! Above all, the mask looks really chic and luxurious. I’ve already gotten multiple compliments on my mask and it’s definitely one you can wear with a fancy outfit!
What’s The Big Secret Of Satin Pillowcases?
I’m no expert and I found all this information on Google, so bear with me. My explanation: cotton and other fabrics tend to absorb moisture, which can result in tangled hair and dry skin (not guaranteed, but it can certainly contribute to this problem). Satin or silk is supposed to work much better at keeping hair and skin in great shape!
The softness of both silk and satin eliminate the friction you get when your hair rubs against a harsher fabric. Benefiting in your hair looking fresh and less ”slept on” in the morning and your skin being more alive when you wake up. Bottom line, yes: satin and silk pillow cases can improve skin and hair hydration, prevent fine lines and wrinkles and result in smoother, frizz free hair every morning.
The satin pillow case from Satin-Pillow works well to keep my hair from getting frizzy or dry and minimizes static. I don’t have much of skin issues, so the result isn’t mind blowing for my skin, but it does prevent it from getting irritated and my skin has been a bit less dry. Whether it’s because of the satin pillowcase I can’t tell. Another benefit is that I don’t have to wake up with sleep lines – the ones you wake up with, not the permanent wrinkles – anymore! Now my skin doesn’t get smooshed anymore as a result of my face pressing into the pillow when I sleep. However, I feel like the benefits depends on what skin and hair type you have, but the fact that a satin or silk pillow is much softer for your skin can definitely benefit you.
